Octopus using Tools- Home Sweet Home

These veined octopuses (Amphioctopus marginatus) were filmed between 1999 and 2008 off the coasts of Northern Sulawesi and Bali in Indonesia.   Underwater footage reveals that the octopuses scoop up halved coconut shells before scampering away with them so they can later use them as shelters. I have seen the slow motion water drops on water but this video brings it to a new level.  This video is slowed down 2000 times and you can see water droplets bounce and then spit three different times before it actually joins the water.  Video is an amazing way to actually see science. Fabulous

A Nike Ad in the Netherlands

This is for sports fans only.

Leading up to the World Cup Draw, Nike Netherlands and W+K Amsterdam sent out a group of football fans to create a draw schedule on the asphalt of Amsterdam's Dam Square out of nothing but 6000 meters of white and orange tape. The orange path demarcates the much hoped for path to glory for the Dutch, and culminates with the word "Bezet," which means "Taken," in the winning slot. The stunt takes inspiration from Dutch Queens Day celebrations, in which people stake their claim on street market spaces with tape the night before and mark their territory with the word "Bezet." interesting

Apps are Everywhere

In this Benjamin Moore App on iPhone, you take a picture, open the free Ben app, click into photo library and choose the picture you just took, touch any color within the photo and you will get the equivilant of the Benjamin Moore colors.  If you want you can then enter your zip code and get the name, addresses and phone numbers of the closest stores. What a great way to get the perfect color without dragging all the paint chips home and never ending experimenting.  Clever

March in Copenhagen

This reminds me of the Civil Rights movement in the 60's.  However, this generation is about Sustainable Living and Climate Change.  On December 12, 2009, thousands of people representing a broad coalition of climate and environmental organizations, activists, and other civil society organizations marched from Christiansborg Palace Square to the Bella Center.

The goal of the march was "to work towards a strong, binding climate agreement that is both fair and effective to minimize the dangerous climate change." motivating

Recycling hotel soap

The Global Soap Project recovers and recycles soap from American hotels. The discarded soap is sanitized, melted and remolded into new bars, then distributed to refugee camps in Africa. We figure, with 4.6-million hotel rooms in the United States, an estimated 2.6-million soap bars are discarded every day. Once this soap has been sanitized and remolded into new soap, it greatly improves the quality of life for hundreds of thousands of refugees, one bar at a time.
